2006 Ice Bowl Results

GVDG held its second annual Ice Bowl and this one was an even bigger success. The format was mulligan singles the first round with seeded doubles the second round. During the first round, player could purchase upto 5 mulligans per hole at the cost of $1 each. The second round, players were seeded based on their scores from the first rounds. Teams were then made then with the higher seeded players being partnered with lower seeded players. There was no "payout" since this was a charity event, but there was plenty of CTPs and a few other prizes.

Scott Faison had a more than perfect first round when he shot a -19 (thats 17 birdies and one ace). Along with Scott's ace on hole 8, Shelby White had an ace on hole 15. Both of their aces were on their first tee shots. In the second round, the best doubles team was Bert Williams and Shea Davis who shot a -11. There was another ace in the second round. This time it was Todd Markov on hole 11.

The most important thing about this event was the food and money that was raised. All total 274 pounds of food was raised for the Pitt County Social Services Food Pantry. When players paid their $10 entry, they also had to donate 2 cans of goods. Most players gave more than just the required amount. Joe Noble from Kinston brought 203 pounds he had collected from his students. The money that players spent for mulligans also found a good use. That money along with some other donations totaled $400! This money went to help two Pitt County high school seniors get scholarships for college.

Events like this show the care and concern that the disc golf family has for its friends and others around it. Heres looking to an even bigger and better 2007 GVDG Ice Bowl.
