August (Mix and Match) Monthly Results

The August monthly had a twist to it that was thought of by Todd Markov. Instead of playing the blue tees first and then the white tees, he suggested that they be mixed up. The first round we played all odd numbered holes from the blue tees and all even numbered holes from the white tees. The second round was the reverse of this with the odd holes being from the whites and the even holes being from the blues.

In the pro division, Tony Adinolfi shot a great first round with a 46. This was followed by another nice round by Jon Upchurch with a 48. In the second round, Scott Faison tried making a charge but came up short of Tony by 2 strokes and tied Jon Upchurch. Congratulations to Tony for two solid rounds of golf on way to his win.

The advanced division proved to be a tougher fight for the win. Daniel Blaisdell had the lead after the first round but it was only a one stroke lead. In the second round, only two advanced golfers shot under par and they were Joe Noble and Stewart Goodson. There identical scores of 52 had them tied overall since both of them shot 55 in the opening round. This meant that a playoff was in order to determine the winner. Playing from the white pad on hole 1, Stewart came up just short on the drive while Joe placed his drive just short of the basket. Stewart then hit a 25-30 foot putt to push the playoff to the next hole. Hole 2 was played from the blue tee and Stews drive clipped something off the tee and came up way short. Joe's drive was much longer but left leaving him with an easy up and down for a three. Stew's second shot came up shorther than he hoped, leaving hime with a putt from the edge of the concrete (still in bounds) for a three. To the galleries amazement, Stew hit this 30-40 foot putt dead solid to force the playoff to another hole. Hole 3 was played from the white tee and Stewart's drive left him about 25-30 feet out for the birdie. Joe put his drive within 10 feet giving him the easy two. Once again Stewart hit abig putt to push the playoff to hole 4. This time the teed from the blue pads. Stewart's drive was way right and deep off the fairway. Joe took advantage of this and placed his drive about 15 feet away. Stewart tried to get out of the rough, but could only manage a 4 at best (and he hit a nice 30 foot putt to get this 4). Joe then made his bridie putt to claim the win in a very exciting playoff. Congratulations to both Joe and Stew for a hard fought battle all day.
