GVDG host doubles twice a week (Monday from the white/short tees and Thursday from the blue/long tees) at West Meadowbrook Park during the daylight savings time. The cost is $3 plus an optional $1 ace pool. The format we use is called best shot. This means that both players throw their first shots and then decide on which one was better. From there, they play their next shot and take the best one. This continues until one player on the team puts the disc in the basket.
Teams are decided by drawing players names from their respective skill level. If a player is new or has limited experince/skill they are placed in the amateur division. All other players are placed in the advanced division. We try to match amatuer players with an advanced player to form a team, but if there are not enough of one division we then pair like players with each other (ex. advanced/advanced or amateur/amateur). If the teams are advanced/amateur they will compete against all other advanced/amateur teams. If the teams are advanced/advanced and/or amateur/amatuer then they will compete against the same divisons.
The number of teams that are paid out is determined by the number of teams that played that day. Each person on the winning teams receives a dx disc of choice. If a person chooses to, they can upgrade to pro line, champion or star plastic for an additional fee ($3 for pro line and $5 for champion and star). There are also CTP (closest to pin) prizes availble during the round also. These are awarded to the person that gets their drive the closest to the pin on a particular hole. Also, don't be suprised if there are more suprises and treats each week.
There is also a point series involving doubles. Points are awarded based on score, number of teams, aces and CTP's. For more information on how this works and to see who is leading each series, check out the doubles standings page.
We hope to see you out on the course and just remember, it's more fun with a partner.
